What is HEMA?

Historical fencing brought to life

Historical European Martial Arts, or HEMA, is the study and practice of combat systems recorded in surviving European fighting manuals. Training combines historical research, technical drilling, controlled sparring and modern competition.

Audax Fighter's Guild takes a hybrid approach: respecting historical sources while also developing the timing, athleticism and decision-making needed for effective fencing today.
